Making Time for College Admission Essays
If the thought of sitting down to write your college admission essays seems unappealing, don't worry. You're not alone. Not many college-bound high school seniors enjoy the essay writing process. There are so many other things that most would rather be doing. Spending time friends, participating in extracurricular activities, enjoying your last year of high school, and taking trips are all infinitely more exciting and interesting than writing college admission essays. But the fact of the matter is, the application process is extremely important. A strong application can lead to a better college, which can lead to a better and more fulfilling job. Viewed in this light, it's easy to see why devoting several weekends to writing your college admission essays is a wise investment.

Getting Started with Your College Admission Essays
The hardest part about writing college admission essays is simply getting started. If you suffer from this common stumbling block, devote an hour or two to some brainstorming. Read the various prompts that the colleges provide, and write down every word or phrase that comes to mind. If, for example, the program asks you to recount an epiphany that you've had recently, sit and think about every moment of clarity, learning experience, triumph, failure, and enjoyable day that you have had over the last several years. Maybe there was a fishing trip with your grandfather, an argument with your best friend, a team championship, a rewarding volunteer experience, or debilitating sickness. The more ideas you have, the better. If you brainstorm long enough, certain topics for your college admission essays will tend to pop out and grab you. Use those ideas as springboards for your first draft.

Haste Makes Waste When It Comes to College Admission Essays
Give yourself plenty of time to brainstorm, develop new ideas, get those ideas on paper, and revise them. If you give yourself only a day to complete your college admission essays, they will be lackluster, almost by definition. If you give yourself a month, the end result will be much better. If you give yourself two or three months, you'll have even stronger college admission essays. Get the picture?
